I just read Revelation 21 and 22 as I suggested in the message yesterday (watch it by clicking here, or watch the entire Bridge service complete with Grayson’s baptism at the end of the message on YouTube by clicking here).
Right after I saw “the joy set before me” more clearly in the Revelation 21 & 22 vision of heaven, I went on to read Psalm 1.
I never saw before that God has called you and me to be a little bit of heaven!
First read this passage from Revelation 22:
“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”
Compare that with Psalm 1:
Blessed is the one…whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
- You and I as followers of Jesus are trees who have been “planted” by the streams of the water of life.
- You and I as followers of Jesus are trees of life to bear the fruit of faith to benefit those around us. (Click here to understand what that fruit is.)
- You and I as followers of Jesus are trees of life to bring healing to people around us who are dealing with the pain that sin has brought into their lives.
You and I are here to be a little bit of heaven to the people around us!
This Holy Week, drink deeply of the water of life, not only for yourself, but so that you might be the tree of life to your family and friends.
